Hello from Auckland!
Since returning from my fourth World Domination Summit a month ago, I’ve had an idea simmering away…
I’m an avid blog reader, podcast listener, Twitter follower, and internet-rabbit-hole tumbler — regularly coming across inspirational content on life hacks, self-development, sustainability, personal finance, minimalism, and travel tips.
I wanted a good way to share the best links with friends who might find them interesting and useful too. That means you!
Now, with extra time on my hands and the desire to keep in touch while in New Zealand, I present the first edition of Wigg’s Wednesdays!
Let me know what you think! Plus, feel free to pass this on to others to subscribe. The more, the merrier.
If this isn’t your thing? No problems! Unsubscribe below, and I’ll see you on the social media instead. xo — Michelle Wigg
This Week’s Favourites
READ: Zen Habits – You Don’t Need to Clear the Decks to Focus on Important Work
“We’ve all done it: we have an important task to do, and yet we have to do a thousand other things before we can start… But here’s what I’ve been reminding myself: you don’t need to clear the decks to get started. You can just launch into the important task.”
LISTEN: Afford Anything (podcast) – The Alter Ego Effect, with Todd Herman (iTunes)
“Creating alter egos can improve your performance in any arena of life.”
“Embracing an alter ego is natural – When we’re children, we wear capes and pretend to be Superman. When we reach adulthood, though, we forget that we used to imagine and embody other characters all the time… Creative imagination is our superpower. It allows us to project ourselves into new personas, and shatter our own limiting beliefs about ourselves.”
READ: Wait But Why – The Tail End
“Instead of measuring your life in units of time, you can measure it in activities or events.”
“What I’ve been thinking about is a really important part of life that isn’t spread out evenly through time— something whose [already done / still to come] ratio doesn’t at all align with how far I am through life: Relationships.”
WATCH: Pete Adeney (Mr Money Mustache) at World Domination Summit – How to be Rich, Happy and Save the World
“If you can get yourself financially independent, not only does it give you the power to eliminate most of the bullshit in life, but it frees your life’s work to become more truthful. Mr Money Mustache encourages living a slightly less ridiculous life than average in order to amass an incredible surplus of money while still young and able to put it to good use.”
TIP: Get free audiobooks and ebooks from your library!
Most libraries these days (including Adelaide) have access to an extensive virtual library of free audiobooks and ebooks. Download the Libby app by Overdrive, put in your library card details, and search through the collection.
I’m currently listening to Grit by Angela Duckworth, plus recently finished The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, with a list of holds waiting to be downloaded when I’m ready. Do it!
Thanks for reading. I’d love to hear your thoughts on these links and if you have any to recommend for future editions. See you next Wednesday!
