Nomad-in-Training
Wigg’s Wednesdays is here again to share inspirational content on life hacks, self-development, sustainability, personal finance, minimalism, and travel tips… on a new fortnightly schedule!
This week, I was helping out on the 7in7 Digital Nomad Conference in Wellington, learning more about location independent work and issues. Such a creative, savvy group of 80+ attendees from a diverse range of fields: full-time housesitters, 4-hour work-weekers, writers, property managers, social media strategists, programmers, therapists, and more.
We heard from speakers on vulnerability, climate change action, well-being, building revenue streams, inclusion, and understanding cultures via untranslatable words. The content gave me plenty to think about, while I enjoyed reconnecting with friends met at the World Domination Summit in USA.
Now, I’m back to work ahead of the Auckland Arts Festival programme launch next week. Keep an eye out! x Michelle Wigg

“Scientists have found that being paid a compliment actually lights up the same parts of your brain that get activated when you get paid a monetary award. Other research (from the same group of researchers) suggests compliments and praise may help us when it comes to learning new motor skills and behaviors.”
READ: For the Love of Earth, Stop Traveling – Jack Miles, The Washington Post
An uncomfortable one to read as an avid traveler, but important to understand what can be done as an individual towards climate action. A simple carbon offset calculator is also suggested here.
“Staying home, in fact, is the essence of making a big difference in a big hurry. That’s because nothing that we do pumps carbon dioxide into the atmosphere faster than air travel. Cancel a couple long flights, and you can halve your carbon footprint.”
