Work, Work, Work, Work, Work
Wigg’s Wednesdays is here again to share inspirational content on life hacks, self-development, sustainability, personal finance, minimalism, and travel tips.
I’ve picked up a second job here in Auckland working with Sidekicker (they’re in Aus too), doing ticket sales, scanning, cloakroom and other random event gigs. I’ve done four shifts so far and it’s been good encouragement to explore different parts of Auckland via travel to various stadiums and venues.
Why so much work? While I have a base here, I’m building up my travel fund for the next big trip in mid-2020 (hello, Canada!). Plus, it’s good to meet people, keep those skills up, and have a chance of free event entry after the shift – such as getting to watch the badass ladies at a Women’s Rugby League match on the weekend.
Have you got any trips coming up? x Michelle Wigg
This Week’s Favourites
LISTEN: Cultivating the Art of Living Well – The Synced Life Podcast
Love this idea of curation, slowing down and self-examination.
“Simply luxurious living starts with simplicity, consciously editing out what doesn’t feel satisfying and choosing quality over quantity. At its essence, it is a commitment to cultivating an everyday life that you love.”
“Use curiosity to begin to explore and discover what feels good for you. Maybe it’s more creativity, maybe it’s more time outdoors, maybe it’s a new career or hobby. Start to look for the markers. Ask yourself, how would I spend my time if I had a week completely to myself? Use your answers as clues to what you could create more of in your life.”
READ: Antidotes to Overwork – Zen Habits
I’ll be making sure to monitor myself for overwork with this second job, so leaving this here as a self-reminder too!
“Enforcing time for rest and replenishment doesn’t come naturally to most of us, especially in our society. In our world, it’s always a matter of doing more and more. It’s always connected, always cram in more, always respond. All the time.”
“How often do you take an hour or two just to go for a walk and not read or listen to anything useful? To find silence and time to contemplate? To find space for yourself, to find room to breathe?”
“We don’t value that, but it’s so important. You can’t function at your best without it.”
READ: The Cup Noodle Industrial Complex – Hannah Kirschner, on Taste
A fascinating read on the origin and rise of the humble instant noodle. Did you know that “approximately 280 million servings of instant noodles (in some form) are consumed globally each day”?
“Trying to get any information about the research and development process that goes into this vast roster of flavors is like asking a government official to reveal military secrets. The instant noodle industry is very tight-lipped.”
Thanks for reading. Feel free to share this with others who can subscribe here. See you next Wednesday!
